I’ve picked a bunch of hellebores to put in a vase on Monday and share with Cathy at Rambling in the Garden. 🙂 Cathy is celebrating 5 years of blogging, which is wonderful and inspirational.
Here’s the vase:
Beside the cat we have a big bunch of hellebores, with a supporting cast of rose foliage and sprigs of pear blossom.
Hellebores don’t last long as cut flowers, but they’re such beautiful blooms that I had to bring a few indoors for admiration. The rose leaves are deep burgundy, and are just pruning clippings that would otherwise be compost today. So although it’s a little odd to use rose for foliage, it seems to work in this display.
In the background is the quince blossom that I mistakenly labelled as crabapple last week. In the few months that I’ve been blogging about the garden I’ve learned lots from other garden bloggers who’ll share tips and insights and gently correct my mistakes.

The cat looks more than a little suspicious of the flower arrangement – afraid it is going to get more attention than she is perhaps? (My cat will chew on any arrangement she thinks is getting attention that is rightly hers.) I love all the hellebore blooms – I have so few, I can’t bring myself to cut them.

Lovely vase and the cat is lovely as well. Hellebores are poisonous so be careful.
I think the Hellebores are more attractive in the UK, better color. Mine were always a washy pink or pale green.

I never get tired of hellebores, You can try searing the stems in boiling water for a few seconds (this does work for floppy plants) to prolong their vase life. Or apparently cutting them when they are more mature . They are not quite so pretty then though. Your cat appreciates them.

Your vase is lovely this week – the hellebores look perfect with the foliage you’ve chosen. And your cat is beautiful too – reminds me so much of our late old girl, Bonnie. Her colouring was similar.
