Old fashioned rose in a vase on Monday

In A Vase on Monday is a wonderful meme where gardeners share their favourite seasonal blooms with Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.

In a vase this Monday I have a bouquet old fashioned roses from our garden, which I think may bevariety ‘Ghislaine de Feligonde’ with honeysuckle, purple toadflax,  welsh poppy and knautia macedonia.

The posy contains sweet peas that I’ve grown from seed, along with some long-lived dianthus and some gorgeous honeysuckle that’s rambling over the kitchen garden wall. Here’s the sweetpeas, in the fairy garden, climbing around the willow arches along the Path of Thyme.

The wonderfully scented rose which I believe is ‘Ghislaine de Feligonde’ has clusters of rose flowers on long stems, which are red tipped orange buds, opening into yellow blooms, fading to a peachy cream after a few days. The rose petals then drop from the central bloom, and the side flowers in the cluster take their turn. It’s a fantastic ‘old fashioned’ plant and yet another gift from the previous gardener.

Even while its overgrown with penstemon it’s flowering abundantly. In future, I’ll give it more space and a top dressing of compost to encourage more flowers.

So here’s the bouquet and posy of garden flowers, on the garden table, on a sunny day. Do pop along to Cathy’s blog and see what other gardeners have found for their Monday vases, and if you’d like to buy yourself or someone else special some homegrown flowers, pop on over to FromeBlooms.com

    1. Thanks Mrs Brown! We’ve been very lucky that the previous owner was a keen gardener with great taste in roses, now it’s my turn to tend these beautiful blooms 😊🌷
