As there’s no post today I’m not cutting any fresh flowers to send, but bouquet 102, cut on Thursday, is still looking fresh and bright. I popped it on a sunny windowsill to share with Cathy’s gang for in a vase on Monday. and bouquets in this style are available to order until tomorrow at FromeBlooms.com
In this vase we have rose ‘Crown Princess Margarita,’ guara ‘snow fountain,’ a purple anemone (unknown variety from a mixed summer bulbs collection) and rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm.’ There’s also a load of sweetpeas and phlox in there, making this a very sweetly perfumed bouquet.
The vase is a pretty little blue white and gold chinese style pot, which cost £1 from a charity shop in Frome. In the background are old clay hot water bottles that we picked up at the market for a few pounds, they decorate the windowsill and hide the dust in the corners. 😉
While I haven’t cut fresh flowers in a few days, we have been enjoying other fresh garden bounty. It’s a great time of year for harvesting and we’ve had fresh spuds and salad this weekend.
There’s lots of basil doing well in the greenhouse, along with our first chillies, and plenty of parsley. There’s not as much variety or quantity as I’d hoped for, and at least half the things I’ve tried haven’t quite succeeded (no squash, no courgettes, only one small sunflower, insufficient coriander, moth-eaten brasiccas, and an unexpected rhubarb in the rose garden)…
…But some things have worked really well, and I love popping into the garden for a handful of something for the kitchen.
Tomorrow, I’ll get back to cutting fresh flowers for FromeBlooms and The Posy Club, but for today, we’re going to kick back with some homemade apple strudel and homegrown apple & rhubarb juice. That rhubarb can’t smother the miniature roses when it’s baked in a pie. 🙂
Have a lovely bank holiday, if you’re having one, and pop over to Cathy’s blog to see more garden delights in a vase on Monday.
Those potatoes look wonderful, enjoy!
