Roses in a vase on Monday

Roses are probably the world’s favourite flower, and mine too.

This hot pink rose is from the bottom of the garden, and after some more epic pruning, it is now (just about) visible from the window of my desk.

It was a pleasant surprise to find a few battered pink roses poking through the weeds a few weeks ago, and now that this rose has more support and is getting more sun, it’s really starting to bloom.

These stems, and the foliage from what I’m guessing is a copper beech tree, are now on display in a vase on Monday.

Each week, gardeners share pictures of flowers “In a Vase on Monday”.

This week my collection includes roses, snapdragons, lady’s mantle, and Himalayan honeysuckle.

The vase is recycled glass, it’s one that me and husband picked up at a Frome market for about £7.

The roses are sweetly scented, and utterly gorgeous.

  3. Ooh, you are finding some treasures in your garden, Jen – what a lovely vase you have put together. The foliage is the perfect shade of green to act as a foil for the roses but hmmm, I am a bit concerned about the ‘Himalayan honeysuckle’, which looks rather like invasive Himalayan balsam to me, but I could be wrong…hope so!

  6. I do not remember what a copper beech loos like. I know I met it before when I was in school, but I thought that it was lighter colored than the common bronzed beeches that I see around now. Purple beeches are downright weird looking. I grew a few, but none were designated as copper.
