Forget-me-nots, roses, wisteria and aquilegia rose queen, Six on Sat – 18 May ’24

A garden update for Mid May, as the rain batters down on the garden this Saturday, I’m sharing some snaps from earlier in the week.

  1. The horsey in a sea of forget-me-nots

2. Vanessa Bell rose – the last to bloom in late autumn last year, and the first to open this spring.

3. Wisteria – looking fine and smelling sweet

4. Is this a teasel? I’m hoping google glass is right and that this large new plant in our wildflower meadow is a teasel, and it might attract more goldfinches to the garden.

5. A view with the cat on a freshly mowed lawn. I know it’s May, but my husband likes a patch of neat lawn and there’s plenty of plants for the wildlife to enjoy elsewhere in the garden.

6. Grannies Bonnets are looking great, there are a lot of self seeded purple ones making themselves at home that the bees often visit. We planted an Aqueligia rose queen, a beautifully coloured flower in the horsey border, and I’m very pleased with these blooms…

The rain is easing off now, from a heavy downpour to a light drizzle, and the robins and blackbirds are starting to sing…

I hope that you can enjoy some blue skies and bird song this weekend,

  1. It looks like teasel, but I am no expert. I only learned about teasel in the last few years. It has always been here, but I tend to ignore it because it grows with weeds. I suppose that if I ever grow flowers for cutting again, I should bring some teasel in from the wild.
