This week’s Six on Sat has rich autumnal shades, and not much time for commentary on a busy morning!
My lovely husband has planted 200ish spring bulbs, with plans for another hundred or so.
Rishi Sumak, the front garden tree, is just about still standing and taking on some fabulous colours. The fushias bright, and the crocos are vibrant. The grapes look pretty, but there’s not a lot of them.
I’ve planted out more seeds, cuttings and done some bits of tidying up and titivating little corners to keep things interesting. And I’m off to join a tour of Frome’s tunnels later, can’t wait!
For more about the tunnels:
The hidden tunnels beneath Frome on Secret Somerset Robin Hill takes us down to the tunnel system underneath the old part of the town. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0lz223k
And for more about gardens, check out Garden Ruminations, where this week, Jim has an amazing Amarylis Belladonna, and a few fabulous fuschias… https://gardenruminations.co.uk/2025/09/20/six-on-saturday-20-9-2025/#more-19281
Enjoy the weekend

Fabulous acer in your garden and the grapes look delicious! Hope you enjoyed your trip, sounds intriguing.
Wow, lots of Spring colour then! The tunnels sound fascinating.
Does the sumak color for autumn? I have never seen such a sumak tree here. Only African sumac is available, and it looks nothing like deciduous sumacs.
https://doingtheplan.com/2025/09/21/staghorn-sumac-autumn-colour/ It sure does colour 🙂
Yes, I just saw that.
I saw a shrubby wild species of sumac in Oklahoma, but I saw it after it defoliated. I was told that it was remarkably colorful, but did not witness it.
