My marvellous husband’s mission to brighten up next spring with more daffodils and tulips continues. The veg bed is repurposed as a cutting bed for spring flowers for the next few months.

“What do you think the new year will bring us?” “I believe it will bring flowers.” “Really? Why?” “Because I am planting flowers.”

This cartoon by JM Nieto was published for the new year of 2017, updated in ’23 and versions of it often go around at new year.

However, January is a bit late for planting spring bulbs, so crack on.

If you (or your lovely husband) have the chance to get some bulbs into the ground, next year will bring flowers.
