Barbara Allen and the red rose

Today’s bouquet features red rose and sweet briar, along with a gorgeous purple clematis bloom, a couple of cottage pinks, poppy and weigela.

My husband had the idea to name this one Barbara Allen, in reference to the traditional poem about a doomed romance. As is often the way with these tales, (SPOILER ALERT) they both die at the end.

They buried her in the old churchyard
They buried him in the choir
And from his grave grew a red red rose
From her grave a green briar
They grew and grew to the steeple top
Till they could grow no higher
And there they twined in a true love’s knot
Red rose around green briar
