This Saturday’s selection of garden highlights includes familiar favourites.
I was pleasantly surprised that this white aubrieta has survived the winter in a pot by the back door.

Out front, the spring bulbs are absolutely gorgeous. I’m halfway through hacking back the overgrown hedge, and we’re thinking of adding a wildlife pond back here soon (ish).

It was a very special moment earlier this week when the sun finally reached the daffodils in the planters. These ‘lasagne’ style planters have been in shade throughout the autumn and winter, so it’s marvellous when the sunshine finally hits the flowers in early April.

Our friend the blackbird is increasingly bold, and mostly unpeturbed when we walk past.

The new rose patch is taking shape and starting to look lovely.

I got a picture of all the new roses for future reference. I bought them cheaply at Big DIY Shop so the labels are pretty vague. There’s ‘Queen of Hearts,’ ‘Peace’ and ‘Rosa the Fairy.’ Also note the broken trowel, which is a little sad as this was a gift, but you can’t make an omelette, etc… I picked up some large poppy and daisy plants at the local market to add a bit of oopmh to our wildflower patch.

The evening sunshine is a pleasure, and now the clocks have sprung forward there’s more time to be out in the garden after work. Which is nice, if still a little chilly.
And finally, a note on the forget-me-nots, which I think look just lovely in front of the pond with the marsh marigolds.

Tony Tomeo asked how long the forget-me-nots last for, so I checked and found a photo from early June, when the forget-me-nots look leggy and are almost finished. We usually allow them to die back and set seed for next year, and then compost the finished plants around midsummer.
That’s my six garden highlights for the week. Find more at Garden Ruminations
This week is a 4 day weekend, so I’m off to do a bit of garden pottering 🙂
Have a lovely week

Loving the spring bulbs out front, gorgeous colour combinations. The only thing wrong with big store plants is the vagueness of names. All of my longest lived plants came from Woolworths!
Your spring bulb patch is gorgeous! And it’s great to know the forget-me-nots last that long! We have a very small patch of two types – field and wood forget-me-nots. The wood ones just started flowering and the field ones have buds, so hopefully they will continue for a good while!
‘Peace’ rose was one of the more popular cultivars in the early 1970s, but I was not aware that it was even available anymore.
enjoy your time in the garden potting and planting!
